Akan muncul isian berapa besar alokasi memori untuk firefox. Hal ini tergantung berapa besar RAM pada komputer. Untuk rekomendasi sebesar 16MB. Nilai ini jika disikan pada isian menjadi :16384

(Alasan 16384 bukannya 16000 karena komputer menggunakan base-12 counting. Jadi 16 megabytes = 16384 bytes). Jika memory komputer kita cukup besar, kita bisa isikan 32MB, atau 32768.)

Setelah semua selesai, klik OK, kemudian close firefox dan restart. Jika Firefox masih menggunakan alokasi memory yang lama, biarkan beberapa menit dan seharusnya perlahan akan terganti. Jika masih gagal, coba reboot sistem kembali.

Bagi user linux khususnya ubuntu yang suka menonton video di situs youtube, sekarang kita bisa memiliki file-file video tersebut pada komputer kita. Ubuntu memiliki aplikasi “youtube-dl” untuk download video-video yang ada pada youtube. Untuk instalasinya cukup dengan mengetikkkan perintah berikut pada terminal : 
sudo aptitude install youtube-dl 
Atau jika kita menggunakan ubuntu 10.04 (lucid lynx), kita bisa install youtube-dl melalui ubuntu software center. Caranya pilih Applications—ubuntu software center. Untuk mempercepat pencarian software, ketik youtube-dl Setelah aplikasi terinstall, kita bisa pakai aplikasi ini dengan cara mengetikkan pada terminal perintah :

Format kompres file yang paling sering digunakan pada linux adalah tar.gz dan tar.bz2. Untuk melakukan kompres dan ekstrak file dengan format tersebut bisa kita lakukan menggunakan terminal dengan mengetikkan perintah – perintah sebagai berikut:

Pada sistem operasi linux,khususnya ubuntu terdapat beberapa jenis file installer yang dapat kita pilih ketika akan meng-install program. Pada tulisan ini, saya belajar mencoba file installer berikut : 1. file *.sh untuk file installer ini cara instalasinya sebagai berikut : - masuk pada directory tempat file .sh disimpan - ketikkan perintah berikut pada terminal sudo ./namafile.sh 2. file *.bin untuk file installer ini cara instalasinya sebagai berikut : - masuk pada directory tempat file .bin disimpan - ketikkan perintah berikut pada terminal sudo chmod +x namafile.bin sudo ./namafile.bin 3. file *.run untuk file installer ini cara instalasinya sebagai berikut : - masuk pada directory tempat file .run disimpan - ketikkan perintah berikut pada terminal sudo chmod +x namafile.run sudo ./namafile.run 4. file *.deb untuk file jenis ini, cukup klik 2 kali pada file yang bersangkutan, layaknya file *.exe pada OS windows.
